New fair-price seafood market to be opened in Kunming

A new wholesale seafood market will open on December 29 in Kunming, mainly trading in fresh and frozen seafood, wild mushroom and hotel supplies.

Located near Kunming Railway Station on Wujing Road, the seafood market covers an area of 20,000 square meters. There are 500 booths providing varieties of seafood, wild mushrooms, agricultural products and hotel supplies.

A market manager said that they are trying to build a seafood hub in Yunnan. The market is expected to be a place for people with purchasing fair-price seafood in the province. Besides, some supporting facilities are planned to be built at the market, such as a 5000-square-meter seafood cold storage, seafood restaurants that totally occupy 3,400 square meters and parking areas.

According to a plan, the ground floor of the market is designed for seafood’s wholesale and retail, as well as agricultural trading. Seafood restaurants are planned to be built on the second story.

At present, the construction of the seafood market is almost completed. Merchants have put a lot of money for decorating their own shops. Some of them choose to build deep ponds in order to provide plenty of oxygen for seafood products.

Local residents can buy all manner of fresh seafood from around the world there, although Kunming as a plateau-inland city is far away from the ocean.
