As the Chinese Lunar New Year draws closer, the annual human migration is expected to begin on January 16 and will last till February 24, 2014.
Kunming's railways are estimated to carry over 4.2 million passengers during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, according to the city’s railway bureau.
The railway bureau will deploy more temporary trains to cope with increasing demand for seats, including domestic trains from Kunming to Chongqing (L746/7, L748/5), Guangzhou (L1126/7/6, L1125/8/5), Neijiang (L776/5), Shanghai (L1218/7) and Hefei (L1110/09), as well as local trains from Kunming to Qujing (L9024/3, L9026/5), Xuanwei (L9034/3) and Lijiang (L9646/7, L9648/5).
If you purchase spring-rush train tickets from January 1 to 15, there are certain restrictions: a passenger is limited to buy 5 tickets at most for one time by phone or internet. If you purchase train tickets at Kunming Railway Station or street ticket outlets, you are limited to buy 6 sleeper tickets or 10 hard-seat tickets.
Passengers can log in the 12306 website, call 95105105, consult at train agents or the railway station’s ticket counters for more information.(Editors: Ryan Li, Lynn)
