Ne Be visits Flying Tigers Hall.
Yesterday (May 2), an unexpected rainfall broke Ne Be's outdoor photography plan. Ne Be had to go to the Flying Tigers Hall in Kunming to shoot his indoor photography first. After browsing the whole hall, Ne Be said sincerely that Chinese people did contribute a lot to preserve history.
The decoration and furnishings retain the 1940's style in Flying Tigers Hall. Walls are covered with photos of Flying Tigers, the Hump Route and Stilwell Road(史迪威公路). Love story between Chennault and Chen Xiangmei(陈香梅) is also a much told story here.
"Chinese people are grateful for what Americans had done during the World War Ⅱ, and I am proud to see that all these precious history have been preserved." said Ne Be.
The idea of shooting Myanmar Road and the Flying Tigers sprang in the year of 2010 when Ne Be was shooting Dali, Love at first sight(《大理,一见钟情》) in Dali. He visited the local World War Ⅱ Museum and saw tools that were used to build the Myanmar Road.
"In western world, people have forgotten that China was an indispensable battle field in World War Ⅱ. They seems to ignore great the great sacrifice and efforts made by Chinese people." said Ne Be. He deems that a documentary movie is needed to let Americans and westerners know more about this part of history. "A complete China is not displayed by textbooks and so on." noted Ne Be.
In order to reflect the authentic history of Flying Tigers, Ne Be browsed a large number of data, as well as visited many museums in Yunnan for several times due to his German rigorous attitude. Ne Be also told us a story, "it was during the time when people were building Myanmar Road, American soldiers had very abundant logistical stuffs. They drank Cola. Then, local Chinese people picked their abandoned Cola bottles and used them to make glasses. Chinese people are wise, but this also showed they were lack of good living conditions. They had sacrificed a lot to built the Myanmar Road in such terrible conditions."
Myanmar Road and the Flying Tigers is not only a history documentary movie, but also a city promotional film. "Jinma Archway, Biji Archway and Kunming subway are going to be showed in the movie and will make a comparison to the city's previous images." said Ne Be. Ne Be and his team will also shoot along the Myanmar Road and will display Tengchong and Dali to the whole world in his movie.
China, especially Yunnan, is much special to Ne Be. He has already shot 12 documentaries of Chinese series. The first one is about Marko polo and Shangri-La in Yunnan. "Chinese people are so hospitable. They are the only one nationality that ask me 'Have you ate already'." said Ne Be.
One thing need to be mentioned is that Ne Be is now looking for photos of 1940s for his movie. Dial 0871—65364045 and tell us if can help.
