Baoshan is a western city in Yunnan Province, connecting Myanmar and China. It enjoys a long history as a hometown for a large number of overseas Chinese as well as a city with the population of ethnic groups more than 200,000.
Baoshan is one of the earliest multi-national regions to be developed in border Yunnan. It was called Yongchang County(永昌郡) in history, which was established in the Eastern Han Dynasty (东汉), from 25 to 220, and was the second largest prefecture in the dynasty. Baoshan has 12 kinds of native ethnic groups, which have a population of 250,000. With over 500,000 overseas Chinese, Baoshan is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan.

Located within the Three Parallel Rivers area, a world natural heritage, Baoshan possess a forest coverage rate of 62%, and has a various of scenic resorts, such as the Thermal Sea and Volcano National Scenic Area in Tengchong County, the Gaoligong Mountain(高黎贡山), the Nu River Grand Canyon, the Beihai Wetland, Heshun Old Town, etc. Among them, Tengchong County is unique for the natural landscape of thermal accompanying with volcanoes. There are altogether over 240 hotsprings in Baoshan, while 88 hotsprings along with 99 volcanoes are distributing in Tengchong County.
Based on its favorable recourses, Baoshan has consecutively introduced over 50 foreign enterprises to invest and develop local tourism projects since 2006. Outdoor exercise development has been taken as a key tourism project in recent years, which contributes a lot in developing Baoshan’s leisure tourism.
