100,000 fish released to Dianchi Lake for pollution control

Yesterday, On November 3, an event called "2013 Protecting Dianchi Lake Action" was carried out in Kunming.

Thousands of citizens took part in the event. They gathered on the Haigeng square in front of Dragon King Temple near the Dianchi lake in the morning. When the event formally started, all participating citizens freed 100,000 fish fries into the Dianchi lake.

It was the fourth time that citizens had set free fish into the lake. "Our purpose to free fish into the lake is to protect water quality, " a related official of Kunming Dianchi Lake Management Bureau said.

The official introduced that native fish containing red coat, high-back crucian carp, silver low-eye carp, bighead carp are very fit for growing in the Dianchi lake.

"To set native fish mentioned above into the lake is good for keeping ecological balance, decreasing nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants, and promoting water purification," the official said.
