Situated on the southwesternmost part of China, Yunnan shares its border with Myanmar to the west and Laos, Vietnam to the south. The terrain of the province, with a total area of 400,000sqkm, is rugged and mountainous with the highest peak Karwakapo at 6,740m and average of 2,000m.
Yunnan has a diverse topography that ranges from alpine snowy peaks to tropical rainforests, possessing the greatest number of plant species in China as well as an incredible array of animals.
As the most culturally diverse province in China, there are 25 different ethnic minorities in Yunnan, making one-third of the province's total population. The cultural multiplicity endows Yunnan with rich heritages.
