The plaque-awarding ceremony was held on 9 June in Jiuxiang Scenic Resort of Yiliang County, where the 2013 Yiliang Tourism Festival and Flower Fair was set to take place on 7-14 June.
Opened to visitors as early as 1989, Jiuxiang was upgraded into state 4A-level scenic spot of China in 2001. The 53-sq-km park has enjoyed a wide fame for its slit-like gorge, Karst cave cluster and paleoanthropologic remains.
In order to well protect the resources in the resort, the local administration launched, in May 2007, the work to apply for National Geo Park status—the eligibility of which was given in August 2009.
In the past three years, the local administration had invested 56.49m yuan ($9.20m), reburnishing both the soft and hard facilities of the park. And in November 2012, the Ministry of Land and Resources of the PRC finally ratified Jiuxiang as a national geo park.
