Four more airports are expected to be built in Yunnan before 2015. They are Lugu Lake Airport, Mengzi Civil and Military Airport, Cangyuan Airport and Lancang Airport.
Yunnan Province is expected to have altogether sixteen civilian airports by the year of 2015. The province had a total of 12 civilian airports now(including airports that are both military and civilian) by the end of 2012. The density of airport distributions in the province reached 0.3 per 10,000sq km by that time, which was 1.7 times as high as the national average.
The province has initially formed an airport network system, which is centered on the Kunming Changshui International Airport(昆明长水机场) and is propped up by Lijiang Arport(丽江机场), Xishuangbanna Airport(西双版纳机场), and other regional airports. Among them, the Changshui airport has preliminarily developed to be a national gateway hub, and it caters to Southeast Asia and South Asia, and connects with Europe, Asia and Africa.
The construction of Lugu Lake Airport, with an investment of 1,214 billion yuan, was started on November 22, 2012. The construction of the Mengzi Airport began on February 23, 2013, and will be completed in 2015. Besides, both Cangyuan Airport and the Lancang Airport are in the period of pre-construction today.
