2014 Kunming Thai Culture Festival, sponsored by Royal Thai Consulate General in Kunming, kicked off on Aosidi square in Kunming on September 15.
Consul-General of Royal Thai Consulate General Mr. Suchart Liengsaengthong attended the ceremony and gave a speech. He said: "Thai government selected the most delicious, the most amusing, and the most valuable things exhibited in the festival this year." Thai dancers in Thai featured costumes and headdresses performed in the opening ceremony.
Three Thai chefs and masters of Muay Thai(Thai Boxing) were invited to show their skills in Kunming. Audience could taste Thai cuisines made by the chefs and watch performances of Thai boxing during the festival on the host venue, according to Mr. Suchart Liengsaengthong.
Thai exhibitors brought Thai foods, fruits, jasmine rice, jewels, furniture, handmade soaps, and cosmetics from Thailand to show and sell in Kunming. Some Thai sellers can even speak Chinese and directly talked with Chinese buyers on the day of the opening ceremony. Others employed Thai or Chinese students to translate and help selling for them.
On the same day, near to Aosidi Square, another opening ceremony for Yunnan-Vietnam French-Style Street was held. The Yunnan-Vietnam French-Style Street was specially designed for recalling meter-gage railway and corresponding locomotive on the railway which owned over 100-year history in Kunming.
Foreign elements especially French characteristics were added in the Yunnan-Vietnam French-Style Street. Cafes, bars, flower shops, car rental stores are lined along the street. Jacaranda trees grown on two sides of the street become beautiful sceneries on the street. From[InKunming--Kunming]
