The first Cessna 510 Mustang airplane of China landed in Changshui International Airport on July 12. The airplane will start operation about 2 months later, serving as an air taxi connecting Kunming with cities through the province or even areas of Southeast Asian countries.
Intended passengers have to book the plane 1 to 3 days in advance. Besides, the airlines buy 1 million yuan insurance for every passenger to protect their safety.
An official introduced that the air taxi will be charged by hours, which is initially priced with 28,000 yuan per hour. If the plane is fully loaded, the ticket price is 7,000 yuan per person, which is 20% higher than first-class cabins of average passenger planes.
The plane is light and low-carbon green, which is quite suitable for flying in southwest China. The maximum landing weight of the plane reaches 8,000 kilograms, and its highest ceiling height achieves 41,000 feet.
The airplane is named for “mustang” for its fast speed and long staying power, whose cruising speed can reach as fast as 630 kilometers per hour. Its cruising power can support a distance of 2,130 kilometers. That is to say, the plane can not only finish short journeys such as from Kunming to Xishuangbanna or from Lijiang to Lugu Lake, but also is capable of finishing long journeys such as from Kunming to Chiangmai.
The air taxi, accommodating 4 passengers and 2 pilots, is small yet properly furnished. Two luggage compartments provide 1.61 cubic meters’ space for preserving baggage. A carpet, a mini bar, fold-away tables are equipped in its cabin. Passengers can adjust their seats into the coziest condition. Two seats can even form a bed.
8 to 10 air taxis might be added in 3 years, to provide a more thorough and convenient service for passengers, according to airlines.
