New Plymouth Garden to represent friendship with China in Kunming was officially opened on August 19. It is the first garden of New Zealend in China. Mayor of Kunming Li Wenrong and mayor of New Plymouth Andrew Judd attended the garden's inauguration ceremony in Kunming Jindian Park (金殿公园) on the day.
New Plymouth, being Kunming's sister city since January 1 of 2013, has maintained a good interaction with Kunming over the past 11 years. The two cities have conducted fruitful cooperation in fields of education, culture, tourism, gardening, etc., since they established amicable relations.
Li Wenrong on behalf of Kunming expressed his thanks to New Plymouth for the city funded the New Plymouth Garden in Kunming and sent local plants and stones in the garden for decoration.
Both mayors agreed that New Plymouth Garden built in Kunming has the same function as Kunming Garden that was built in New Plymouth, will become a symbol to the two cities’ long-term friendship and a window for people of the two cities to understand each other.
Andrew Judd said Kunming city's urban construction and cultural landscape impressed him a lot for his first visit here this time. He invited Li Wenrong to pay a return vistit to New Plymouth during their meeting.
New Zealand ambassador to China Carl Worker said: "The sister city relationship between the two cities has developed into a good example for China and New Zealand. Hope bilateral cooperation between the two cities and the two countries will become more and more successful." From InKunming
