Indian clInidan artists perform Saptakam on the stage in China.
Indian classical dance Saptakam was staged in Yunnan Normal University in the evening of July 3 in Kunming. The dance was performed by artists of Indian Music and Art Academy.
The year of 2014 is the Friendly Exchange Year between China and India. To enhance communication and cooperation between India and China, several Indian art works were put on stages in cities of China.
Through performances by Indian artists, Chinese people can know and understand Indian culture better. It is said that Kunming is the second station in the country to display Saptakam except for Beijing, the capital city of China.
Saptakam is a kind of dance that mixes 7 different Indian dance forms, on the subject of Indian ancient literature work Atharvaveda, which enlightens people to appreciate and understand each other.
A student of Yunnan Normal University Zhang Li said: "The dance performance is very different from what we normally saw in Indian movies. Although I have problems to understand Indian performances well, the brilliant performances and magnificent costumes of Indian artists on the stage still brought me an illusion of staying in India."
The student hoped that she and other Kunming people can have the chance to watch more high-level Indian performances in future by means of platform of friendship bridge between India and China.
