Wujiaba Airport earned 14 million yuan after retirement

The former airport site Wujiaba has created an income of more than 14 million yuan over the past 1 year and 3 months, by sponsoring over 30 activities and renting idle properties.

A dynamic car exhibition was held in the airport site in November 30, 2012. Over 600 luxury cars ran in the 3.5 meters wide runways. These cars came from over 50 world famous car brands, including Lamborghini, Maserati, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, etc. From then on, over 30 large-scale activities were held there, such as concerts, car exhibitions, driving trainings, etc. Property rental is the second important source of revenues. Part of offices, bulk warehouses, and broad fields were rented by nearby companies and factories in temporality.

Wujiaba Airport, which served as an important aviation hub in Kunming for years, was replaced by the new Kunming Changshui International Airport on June 28, 2012.

After being in idle for over 1 year, the former airport may face demolition or reconstruction soon. According the Kunming airport group, the property of Wujiaba Airport is to be handed over to the government of Kunming. The government said, the urban design scheme made by the design institute of Tongji University will be publicized recently.

According to the design scheme, Wujiaba Area may be divided into four zones, which are respectively the public fitness zone, central business and financial function zone, headquarters economy zone, cultural tourist and education zone. The main runway is going to be transformed into a traffic artery, and the deputy runways will be built into a water landscape zone. A 80 meters long landscape avenue, Feihu Road, will reconstructed in the former waiting areas.
