Kunming is expected to connect with Hekou(河口), a border county in southern Yunnan Province, by full expressway in October, 2013, as long as the Suolongsi-Mengzi Expressway(锁蒙高速) be opened to traffic.
The whole section is linked up by five expressways. They are respectively the Kunming-Shilin Expressway(昆石高速), the Shilin-Suolongsi Expressway(石锁高速), the Suolongsi-Mengzi Expressway(锁蒙高速), Mengzi-Xinjie(蒙新高速), and the Xinan-Hekou Expressway(新河高速).
Among them, the Suolongsi-Mengzi Expressway is the last remaining section to open. It totals 78.943 km, with a project cost of altogether about 4.71 billion yuan. The part which from Kaiyuan(开远) to Mengzi is expected to get through at eight o’clock on July, 23. The Nanpanjiang Bridge(南盘江大桥) is still under construction and is estimated to complete before October.
The Suolongsi-Mengzi Expressway is a component of national truck expressway(GZ40), as well as an important part of the Asia highway network(A14) that connecting Vietnam’s Hanoi, China’s Kunming, and Burma’s Mandalay.
