A Pan-Asian financial center will be set up in Kunming within 20 years. It is a proposal put forward by 2013 Dianchi Pan-Asian Cooperation Seminar.
In the seminar, Ruan Fengbin(阮凤斌), the deputy mayor of Kunming said: "Kunming is facing a big market, adjoining both Southeastern Asian and Southern Asian countries with a total population of 1.8 billion."
Viewing the market's development potential, some financing institutions like HSBC(Hong Kong and Shang Hai Banking Corporation) have established branch offices in Kunming.
Fudian Bank, a local Yunnan bank, has also established some branch offices separately in Ruili, Hekou, Simao, Jinghong, Tengchong, and will add a new office in Mohan Port soon.
These established bank offices mainly take charge of providing services of financial settlement and capital raising for Yunnan enterprises which plan to invest and trade in Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, etc..
"We hope we could attract more financial institutions to develop here. Institutions including investment bank, insurance company, fund company, financing assurance company, publicly listed company are well encouraged and welcomed to join," said Liu Guangxi(刘光溪), head of Yunnan Provincial Financial Office.
