Costs of tour routes to Southeast Asia may double after October, since a new tourism law will come into service to cut off extra-paid tourism projects during trips.
Reporters visited some travel agencies in Kunming and found that the tour costs to Europe, North America, Australia, Japan and South Korea will grow about 2 percent to 3 percent. The tour fee to Southeast Asia also surges, more than 50% up. The price to travel in Thailand with tour groups may rise to 7,000 yuan, and it may be doubled during the coming China’s National Holiday that lasts from October 1 to October 7.
"Travel agencies used to launch tour packages of 3800-yuan Thailand trip or 4800-yuan travel to Phuket Island. Take Thailand travel as an example, the flight cost was 4,000 yuan for one at least. One have to spend nearly 8,000 yuan when taking costs of living, catering and ticket admissions into account. Though tour fee is attractively low, travelers have to pay extras for other sightseeings and entertainments." said Zhang Lei(张蕾) , from Kunming Kanghui Travel Agent.
Zhang said the quality of both catering and living services used to be lower, and travelers were usually asked to shop or pay extra fees to make up the total tour fees. After the implement of the tourism law, some implicit consumptions will be totally transparent. Travelers need to pay in a lump sum, and then they don’t have to worry about other extra required pays.
According to industry source, the price rise of group tours affected by the new law may boost the DIY tours. It will be cheaper and more reasonable for travelers from Yunnan to visit Southeast Asian Countries in this way.
