Located in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, there are 108 households of Naxi ethnic group living on a mushroom-shaped rock with an area of 0.6 Square kilometers.
It is said that Naxi’s ancestors have resided here for more than 1300 years. The place has been become an ‘old castle’ which is comprised by natural wonders and folk customs of Naxi ethnic group.
Starting from Lijiang Old Town and traversing the well-known Yulong (Jade Dragon) Snow Mountain Scenic Area, we arrived here---Baoshan Rock Town. It is about 120 kilometers away from Lijiang Old Town.
Xu Tuhao, a 77-year-old tour guide, was waiting for us. Xu said that he has received a lot of foreign tourists from America, Japan, Britain, Korea, and etc. He was proud to share the stories of Baoshan Rock Town with visitors.
“My family has lived here for generations. Our living conditions are getting better year by year. Some villagers can use internet, even solar power” He said.
The town with its unique charms attracted a lot of visitors, experts and scholars. It is surrounded on three sides by steep hills. The eastern side abuts the Jinsha River. In addition to stone houses, the local residents still use some stone-made tools in their daily life.
Thanks to the ever-increasing tourists, a total of 10 inns have been built in the town.
