Last Saturday, Duan Shujun, who is considered as Yunnan first man in playing bungee jump, challenged a new kind of extreme sport, rope swing.
"Three, two, one, jump!" Following with the yell, Duan, leaped off the Maguohe bridge, the highest bridge with the elevation of 1,806 meters in Yunnan. The bridge sits in Luquan county of Yunnan.
It was the first jump after Duan achieved his highest bungee jump record from a 370-meter bridge, the Balinhe bridge in Guizhou province, last year.
Duan chose the Maguohe bridge as his new challenging target over 3 months ago. During that period, Duan and his companions carefully measured the bridge, with a span of 190 meters and vertical drop of 180 meters. After making thorough preparations, Duan decided to go to jump down from the bridge.
On the day that Duan made rope swing, the weather was very nice. Using four ropes, two of which were safety ropes, Duan successfully jumped from the bridge. He swung 4 or 5 times like a large clock pendulum in the air with the rope length of 90 meters, and then stopped swinging finally. He was hung on the ropes in a still state for almost 10 minutes.
"I felt dizzy when I was hung upside down," Duan explained why he stayed on the ropes for a while.
"Rope swing has become a very popular sport in many regions and countries in the world, especially in western countries," Duan said, "although my challenge for rope swing this time in Yunnan is rare."
Smoothly finishing this challenge, Duan Shujun planned some new targets. "I hope I could jump down from Siduhe bridge some day, and the bridge is the highest bridge in Hubei province, with a height of 560 meters, equivalent to a 200-floor building." And he plans to do bungee jump from a fire ballon that floats 400-500 meters high in the sky over Dianchi lake later.
