Beijing Road resumes to normal traffic after three and a half years' construction.
Beijing road, in the length of 11.7 kilometers, is an artery of Kunming connecting the south and north city of Kunming. The road has been the first avenue of the spring city.
Affected by the metro construction of line 1 and line 2 which started from May 1, 2010, the road could barely eke out four lanes in traffic in the past three and a half years, resulting in congested and disordered transportation.
Metro lines are estimated to open by 2014. The road began its upgrading and revising from March 6, 2013.
By now, the upgrading and revising project is completed. Beijing Road finally recovers to a broad, tidy, and unimpeded artery with brand new vitality.
"Beijing Road is much more expedite than before." said Shi Liqiong, a bus driver in the city.
At eight o' clock this morning during the rush hours, Shi took 58 minutes to drive a No.23 bus from Kunming Railway Station to Northern Bus Terminal. According to Shi, the route once took her more than 3 hours to make a round trip when the road was in construction.
Local residents applause for Beijing Road's resume. Still, they appeal for an open road for long-term.
