The Workers' Cultural Palace collapsed after being demolished by explosives in Kunming, at 7 o’clock on September 7, 2013. However, memories about the once busy building is still hanging over people’s hearts.
Just the same as the Worker’s Cultural Palaces in other cities, the second-generation Worker’s Cultural Palace of Kunming had witnessed the variations of people’s lives over times.
The palace was an landmark building in Kunming in the 80s of last century, for being one of the the highest and grandest buildings in Kunming. It was also once the most famous tourist attraction in Kunming then. Taking a photo with the the palace tends to be a fashion at that time, no mater the locals or nonlocals.
What the old palace had been loaded is every little bit of Kunming people’s daily lives. For Sun Zongshun, who used to work in the building, the palace was nearly equal to his second home, which was ordinary yet heart-warming.
The Worker’s Cultural Palace has became an essential part in Kunming people’s memories as a cultural hub for 28 years. The former Worker’s Cultural Palace had been demolished, yet we still hope that the new one that locates in No. 210 in Eastern Renmin Road will take over the mission to enrich and entertain people’s daily lives.
